THE METRO Manila Development Authority (MMDA) banned tricycles from Katipunan Avenue today despite a moratorium issued by the Quezon City Hall at noon yesterday. (See related story here.)

University Physical Plant administrator Leoncio Miralao said today that national highways, like Katipunan Avenue, are under the jurisdiction of the MMDA, and not Quezon City Hall.

Tricycles can pass Esteban Abada St. parallel to Katipunan instead, said Miralao in a text message sent to The GUIDON.

Tricycles are still allowed inside the Ateneo campus, said Miralao. These tricycles have terminals near Gate 2.5 and Gate 3.5.

So sino dapat ang mangibabaw? Number two, nag-isyu ang moratorium ang Quezon City Hall–so sa pakiwari ng Quezon City Hall ay jurisdiction pa rin nila ang Katipunan? Bakit? Ibig sabihin hindi nila iniisip na jurisdiction ng MMDA ang Katipunan? May friction sa MMDA at local government unit kung ganon … baka magandang pang-Inquiry ito.

  • MMDA is like the office of the Governor of Metro Manila or Metropolitan Manila Commission, during the time of Marcos, in which Imelda was the governor. All of Metro Manila is under MMDA hence MMDA can disregard the moratorium of Mr. SB.

  • I’m just curious. If there is a terminal inside Ateneo, and yet tricycles are banned to use Katipunan Ave., how do they get inside?

  • The big problem I see and I think what the MMDA and numerous establishments fail to realize actually is Katipunan is part or runs through Loyola Heights which is a Residential Area. I thik that makes a big difference when it comes t things like this.
