Ricardo Abad, PhD  joins Executive Committee of Asian Shakespeare Association

Ricardo Abad, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Sociology and Anthropology Department and faculty member of the Theater Arts Program was elected to join the Executive Committee of the Asian Shakespeare Association (ASA), headed by ASA President Beatrice Lei of National Taiwan University and Vice-Presidents Judy Celine Ick of University of the Philippines and Poonam Trevedi of University of Delhi. The new Executive Committee is currently preparing for the 2018 Conference of the Asian Shakespeare Association with the tentative theme “Shakespearean Trafficks/Tropics,” which will be held on April 2018 at Arete. US Ambassador visits ADMU American Historical Collection

The United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Y. Kim visited the American Historical Collection housed in the Special Collections of the Rizal Library on March 29. The American Hist0rical Collection began in 1950 and contains an extensive collection of books, pictures and other materials about the US experience in the Philippines. He also held a town hall session with Ateneo students about US-Philippine relations, emphasizing the strong relationship between the two countries and how it is “built on common history and shared values.” Faith T. AIESEC Youth for the Philippines discuss social media in the country

AIESEC hosted Youth for the Philippines on March 29, an event that focused on the role of social media in the political climate of the country. Speakers who were invited included Senator Risa Hontiveros and professional broadcast journalist, TV host and anchor Karen Davila. Theology instructor Raoul Roncal, Political Science instructor Gino Trinidad, and Quantitative Methods and Information Technology faculty member Nathania Chua were also invited to give their views and insights regarding the topic as panelists.  Faith T. State of the Marginalized Address focuses on urban poor risks and vulnerabilities

Ateneo Student Catholic Action, in partnership with the Office of the Vice President for Social Development and Project LAAN, presented the State of the Marginalized Address on April 1,with the theme, “Urban Poor Risks and Vulnerabilities: Housing, Public health and Youth at Risk.” Among the speakers invited were Health Sciences Program Director Dr. Norman Marquez, Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation Senior Community Organizer Atty. Rommel Abitria, and Jethro de Castro, senior technical officer of the Program for Informal Settler Families in the Department of Interior and Local Government. The day-long event concluded with simultaneous workshops conducted for each of the three topics. Faith T. Lim
