Errors cost Lady Batters second game

The Lady Batters suffered a devastating loss after facing defending champions UST Tigers, finishing 8-0 at the top of the sixth inning, last December 4, 2010 at the University of the Philippines field.

Unable to match their solid performance in the previous game against Adamson, the ladies in Blue struggled both defensively and offensively. Costly errors were committed both on and off the field, giving their opponents the upper hand as they took advantage of the early lead.

From the first inning of the game, it was apparent that the Lady Batters were having an off-game. Simple plays that should have been easy outs were not executed and difficulty with ball handling resulted in many unearned runs by the Lady Tigers.

Offensively, the Lady Batters were also unable to level produce. Despite the slow pitches from the Lady Tigers, they had problems with attaining solid hits. The bases were often left empty, which warranted scarce scoring opportunities.

These lapses dampened the spirits of the Lady Batters which seemed to carry on throughout the rest of the game. Error after error, the Lady Batters soon found themselves in a batting slump that lasted throughout the game.

“It was like [they] had given up already [after the first few innings],” says head coach Uly Mejia.

The Lady Batters next face the UP Warriors on December 8, Wednesday, 1 PM at the University of the Philippines field.
