THE ATENEO Mens Football Team extended their unbeaten streak to six matches after a 4-0 drubbing of the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons on Thursday, March 15, at the Rizal Memorial Football Field in Manila.
The victory lifts the Blue Eagles to a 7-1-2 record, just behind the University of the Philippines (UP), in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80 Men’s Football tournament. The Soaring Falcons, meanwhile, earned their tenth straight loss, dropping to a 0-0-10 record.
Jarvey Gayoso was in explosive form, netting all four goals for the Blue and White. His first of the match opened scoring in the 8th minute and kicked off what proved to be a rampant attacking display in the first half.
A smart passing exchange with Jimi Haosen set him up for his brace in the 17th, as Ateneo played with the same verve and precision that characterized their first round meeting with the Soaring Falcons.
Gayoso completed his first hat-trick in the 31st, capping off a flowing move down the right flank, before effectively sealing the game with his fourth of the match and 12th of the season just minutes later.
The Blue Eagles produced another steady performance at the back in the final 45 of the match, marshalling the tempo without falling victim to the complacency that often plagues teams sporting comfortable leads.
The second half also provided valuable playing time and experience for Ateneo’s young guns, as all four rookies, Joshua Laud, Jose Poe, Joaquin Roque, and Gavin Rosario, helped see through the team’s fifth win in six matches.
The Blue Eagles look to continue their good run of form against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers on Sunday, March 18, at the Rizal Memorial Football Field in Manila.
