SANGGUNIAN VICE President Koko Quilatan released a memorandum stating that the Central Assembly (CA) has passed two resolutions during its first meeting for the second semester on January 25.

Resolution No. 1 s. of 2016-2017: A Resolution to Conduct Public Hearings for Sectoral Representation in aid of legislation was authored by School of Social Sciences Representative Christian Dy and Committee on Socio-Political Engagements (CSPE) Chairperson Benjamin Alvero III.

With this resolution, the CSPE is tasked to conduct public hearings in aid of legislating enabling laws for sectoral representation and submit a committee report on its recommendations. Key informants from constituent sectors, the Ateneo Commission on Elections, and accredited political parties will attend the public hearings.

Meanwhile, Dy also authored Resolution No. 2 s. of 2016-2017: A Resolution Creating the Constitutional Commission. The Commission will review and amend the 2016 Constitution to address the clarificatory petitions filed on supposed contradictions.

In the memo, Quilatan said that the CA hopes for these resolutions to create a more “representative, responsive, and proactive” Sanggunian. The two resolutions await the final approval of Sanggunian President Carmela Vinzon.

“We, your Sanggunian, are hoping that this is the beginning of a good year of service to God, the student body, and to the nation. We have only a few months left in our terms, but we have many initiatives lined up. I urge the student body to hold us, your Sanggunian officers, accountable to our promises,” the memo read.

“Beyond this, let us find ways to collaborate, to work together towards building a better future. This is your student government, and you deserve to have a say in how it is run,” Quilatan added.

According to Article VII, Section 1.1 of the 2016 Constitution, the CA is composed of the Vice President, School Representatives, Sectoral Representatives, the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo Representative, the Ateneo Resident Students Association Representative, and appointed Committee Heads from the Course Representatives. It is chaired by the Vice President.
