Hey, we’re still alive!
R.E.M. put it best when they sang, “It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.” The Mayans may have been way off on their supposed apocalyptic prediction, but that doesn’t mean that people didn’t prepare for what could have been the last day of their earthly lives.
So we took to the Ateneo community with the question: What would you have done if the world ended last December 21?
“I’d be doing the same thing I do everyday. The probability the world will end today, or any other day in the future, is just the same. According to Christian teaching, no one can really tell—it comes like a thief in the night. We should always be prepared for the unexpected everyday of our lives. Why should it change? It’s not that I’m doing it perfectly, but we should be ready anytime.”

“I would be riding shotgun in a friend’s car on the way to a beach somewhere. I’d like to spend my last few moments on earth with a bunch of my favorite people, swapping silly stories and reminiscing about the good times. And eating. Lots and lots of eating.”

“I guess a lot would say they’d do things they’d never do but for me, I’d do something I learned from a high school retreat a long time ago. If I had enough time, I’d say thank you to everyone in my life who did me a good turn up to everyone who did a lot. Also, I’d say sorry to everyone in my life who deserves an apology from me whether I directly or indirectly did them wrong. After all that, I’ll just be with my two daughters.”
