DROPPING THEIR second game of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 88 Softball Tournament, Ateneo suffered a mercy rule at the hands of the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Batters, 0-18. The match took place earlier today, February 28, at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in the City of Manila.

The Blue and White was immediately placed on the back foot as La Salle broke through with five runs in the opening inning. The Blue Eagles’ pitching staff faced sustained pressure from the at-bats and baserunning of the Lady Batters, allowing DLSU to seize early momentum.

The Lady Batters widened the gap in the second inning, unloading six more runs to extend the deficit. In an attempt to halt the momentum of the Green and White, the Blue Eagles committed an error, allowing two more runs to cross home plate. Ateneo rotated pitchers in an attempt to settle the game in the circle, but La Salle continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Despite the efforts of the Blue and White to regroup defensively, La Salle tacked on five additional runs in the third inning, sealing the abbreviated loss. Offensively, Ateneo struggled to generate momentum at the plate, as La Salle’s defense kept the Blue Eagles scoreless throughout the shortened contest.

Despite the setback, the Blue Eagles will continue to seek redemption in their next match against defending champions, the Adamson University Lady Falcons on March 3 at 9:00 AM, in the same venue.

DLSU (18): 5 8 5 X X X X
