Ateneo Women’s Swimming Team crowned as Season 88 silver medalists

THE ATENEO Women’s Swimming Team concluded their UAAP Season 88 campaign with a strong first runner-up finish, showcasing consistency and grit across four days of competition at the New Clark City Aquatic Center in Capas, Tarlac. 

In the 200m Breaststroke, Maica Garcia secured a silver medal with a solid time of 2:46.20, adding crucial points to the team’s tally. Teammate Marga Amoguis also put up a commendable performance, landing fifth in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:32.33 to round out a strong showing for the Blue Eagles.

Leading the charge in the 200m Butterfly event was Mishka Sy, who once again stamped her dominance after claiming gold with a commanding 2:24.54 finish. 

Maiki Gonzaga came close to a podium finish in the 50m freestyle, touching at 27.93 seconds for 4th place. Rounding up the points, Kimi Manuel finished in eighth place with a time of 28.65.

In the final team event, the 400m Medley Relay team composed of Althea Go, Garcia, Isabel Estacio, and Kiandra Lee finished fourth with a time of 4:52.94, closing out the meet on a competitive note.

Following her impressive swims throughout the four days of competition, Mishka Sy was crowned the Women’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season, having also claimed the award last UAAP Season 87.

As the waves settled for the season, the Ateneo Women’s Team amassed a total of 255 points, clinching the silver medal, behind long-time rivals, the University of the Philippines.
