WITH VARIOUS competitive sports clubs and teams gracing the Loyola Heights campus, the Ateneo community’s support for high-caliber athletics transcends beyond the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) stage. This watchlist features the events and projects that the Katipunan-based squads have prepared for this semester.

Ateneo Basketball Club

Creating a space for basketball enthusiasts, the Ateneo Basketball Club (ABC) aims to build a community for those who share the same passion. ABC President Daryll Diaz mentions that his club wants to make basketball visible, accessible, and open to everyone—no matter the skill level.

Their training sessions are every Monday and Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the College Covered Courts. Members are welcome to showcase their skills during their friendly 3v3 and 5v5 tournaments. The club also participates in out-of-school tournaments, with the members selected through tryouts. Apart from this, ABC is currently planning to create an outreach program, using basketball as a way to connect and share love with the rest of the Ateneo community.

Ateneo Blue Point

Checking in as a new sports club this year, the Ateneo Blue Point (ABP) is the first bouldering organization in the Loyola Heights campus. Founder Jocson Lim aims to build a space for climbers to flourish and connect with each other.

The ABP will offer weekly sessions at gyms like BHive Makati and Climb Central. Taking the club into greater heights, it introduces mentorships, hub discounts, and mixers that will make bouldering more interesting and accessible. These vertical challengers are also eyeing to make competitions within the organization to further connect their members together.

Ateneo Bowling Team

Getting their rhythm back after a hiatus during the pandemic, the Ateneo Bowling Team (ABT) strives to establish themselves as one of the best college varsity bowling teams in the Philippines. The team will also start to implement tournament participation and academic modules to produce athletes who are both competition-ready and strategically wise.

The ABT will be offering workshops and networking opportunities to help students discover pathways in the realm of bowling. Moreover, the squad looks forward to participating in the Philippine Bowling Federation’s fourth Youth Quarterly Tournament. Tryouts for the team are scheduled for September 27, October 4, and October 11.

Ateneo Golf Team

Performing with excellence, the Ateneo Golf Team (AGT) has consistently impressed in their tournaments. Despite golf being an individual sport, AGT members have found support within each other, helping them become the best version of themselves.

The team recently competed in the ICTSI Intercollegiate Tournaments and will be preparing for other tournaments, such as the Pilipinas College Golf Series for the year. Star players of the AGT include prodigy Juan Escano, who has been carving his place in Philippine college golf with tournament wins, and Monique Mendoza, who was crowned the Women’s Champion for the recently concluded Pilipinas College Golf Indoor Tournament.

Ateneo College Arnis Varsity Team

Aiming to build appreciation for Arnis, the Ateneo College Arnis Varsity Team (ACAVT) showcases the national sport through participating in events and competitions. Last year, the ACAVT garnered bronze, silver, and gold medals from different competitions and had the opportunity to represent the Philippines on the international stage.

The Atenean arnisadors and arnisadores want to highlight that, aside from skills and self-defense, arnis also builds character and discipline. Co-captain Andre Dorde particularly mentions how he has seen arnis bring camaraderie and the best out of its practitioners.

Ateneo Futsal Club

Striving for more, the Ateneo Futsal Club (AFC) continues to grow in number each year. AFC  advocates for creating inclusive spaces for those new to the sport and for those who are already familiar with the sport—giving students an avenue to enjoy the game with no pressure. Training is held twice a week, and members can attend whenever they are available.

The AFC will be holding AFCup again for this school year, a futsal tournament open to all Ateneo students, which furthers their advocacy of giving Ateneans an avenue to play football. Current AFC President Raphael Uy aspires to further establish the AFC, hoping that it could be seen not just as a sports club, but as a community organization as well.

Afterparty Run Club

Starting out as a barkada run, founder Migo Lumawig started the Afterparty Run Club (ARC) to build an inclusive community for runners his age, no matter their pace. After catching wind, he and his friends decided to announce their runs on Instagram, reaching over 40 people on their first “public” community run.

ARC runs every Tuesday inside the Ateneo, with a bag drop and meet-up at 5:00 PM, at the right side of JSEC entrance. The community has two run groups: the run-all-the-way group for intermediate to advanced runners and the run-walk group for beginners. Announcements regarding their runs are posted on Instagram, @afterpartyrunclub.

Ateneo Rowing Team

After their appearance at the 2025 World Rowing Indoor Championships last February, the Ateneo Rowing Team (ART) is set to leverage their momentum for the Hong Kong Rowing Championships later this year.

Preparing to face seasoned collegiate-level rowers from all around the globe, Team Captains Joseph Andaya and Julia Pariñas look to surge ahead in their upcoming regatta as they lead the team’s discipline and harmony. Notably, the ART brings honor in representing the Philippines as the only university-based Olympic rowing team in the country.

Ateneo Volleyball Club

For the current semester, the Ateneo Volleyball Club (AVC) strives to continue the success of its flagship project, Atletanista: Volleyball Clinic. This outreach program encourages the organization’s members to nourish their common love for the sport by sharing their skills and knowledge with kids who aspire to learn the volleyball basics.

The AVC prepares an exciting showcase for its members, including an annual one-day league, and more tight-knit projects lined up to build the club as a haven of self-expression and profound sportsmanship.

Talons Flag Football

Despite the departure of key players, the Talons Flag Football Team looks to gather learning experiences before returning to the Jingle Bowl, a co-education 5v5 flag football tournament held annually at the University of the Philippines Football Field.

The rookie-laden team’s goal is to welcome more members into their growing family by establishing beginner-friendly training routines for competitions. Anchoring on relentless passion, Talons continues to amplify Flag Football in the Philippine sports scene.

Ateneo Rifle Pistol Team

The Ateneo Rifle Pistol Team (ARPT) takes pride in being the only university-based shooting squad in the Philippines. Consistency is built on their arsenal as they aim to follow up on their gold medals at the 46th Southeast Asian Shooting Association Shooting Championships – PH Open 2024.

In its quest to aim for excellence, the ARPT will move forward to compete nationally while upgrading its shooting range and training facilities. With open recruitment and tournaments coming up, the team is set to defend their titles and welcome new marksmen into their family.

Ateneo Ultimate

In a season of rebuilding, the Ateneo Ultimate (AU) continues to be driven by passion and a sense of camaraderie. The team recently brought home a bronze medal at Pool B of the Gender Bender 2025’s Open Division last May.

Despite most of its current leaders being rookies, the team is focused on introducing frisbee to the scene through beginner-friendly trainings, tournaments, and open tryouts. AU continues to embody the commitment and spirit of the game, preparing to pique the interest of Ateneans this year.

Ateneo Tennis Club

Slowly but surely, the Ateneo Tennis Club (ATC) is getting back on their feet, restoring their pre-pandemic operations. Currently, the ATC is focusing on providing a community and family for tennis enthusiasts inside the Ateneo while rebuilding the club at the same time.

The club is also planning to offer more than just open plays. The ATC will be having tennis trivia nights and watch parties in the near future for the Atenean community. Their training is held every Wednesday, with two hours of practice and an open play afterwards. The ATC is also looking to open the club to beginners by teaching them the basics of tennis.
