THE ATENEO Women’s Golf Team finished with both gold and silver medals in the team event of the recently-concluded 2025 Philippine Intercollegiate Golf Series (PHIGS) held across three days—February 23, March 2, and March 9—at the Royal Northwoods Golf and Country Club in San Rafael, Bulacan.

The Blue and White fielded two teams in the tournament, wherein Team A, composed of Iya Fianza, Andi Joson, Monique Mendoza, and Annika Jalbuena, captured the championship. Meanwhile, Team B, which featured Simi Tinio, Renee Heredia, and Julia Lorenzo, secured second place.

Aside from the championship, Fianza retained her title as the overall top scorer of the series, tallying a total of 77 points across three rounds.

The two Atenean squads showcased their skill early in the opening round, with Team A racking up 44 points—powered by Fianza’s impressive 27-point performance and the combined 17 points from Joson and Mendoza. Meanwhile, Team B tallied 23 points, with Tinio contributing 13 and Heredia adding 10.

The second round continued to be smooth sailing for the Blue Eagles, with Fianza scoring 27 points and Mendoza scoring 18 to bring the Blue and White’s total to 89, keeping them in first place. Determined to maintain the Ateneo 1-2, Tinio’s 16 and Lorenzo’s 10 allowed them to remain in second place, five points above De La Salle University.

The final round saw the Loyola Heights-based squads finish the job, with Team A securing the championship with a final score of 124 points and Team B securing second place with 81. Fianza and Joson led the way for Team A with 23 and 12 points, respectively. Maintaining their form from the last round, meanwhile, Tinio and Lorenzo combined for 32 points to secure Team B’s silver finish.

Aside from Fianza’s monstrous 77-point performance, four other Ateneans were among the top 10 scorers in the tournament. Tinio’s 46 points were enough for third place, with Joson and Mendoza right behind her with 43 and 41 points, respectively. Lorenzo completed the Ateneo contingent on the leaderboard, garnering 35 points for eighth place.

After breaking out in their first major tournament of the year, the Blue and White hope to further establish their dominance in the sport as they set their sights on future tournaments.
