THE ATENEO Women’s Lawn Tennis Team’s (AMLTT) season-long cold streak resumed in their 0-5 setback against the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs. The contest was held earlier today at the Felicisimo Ampon Tennis Center in the City of Manila.
The AWLTT remains at fifth in the standings with a 0-7 win-loss record with one game remaining in their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 campaign.
Chelsea Roque commenced today’s battle against NU by squaring off against Danna Abad. Despite the valiant effort of the Blue Eagle, Abad’s superior shots outshined Roque, who was bested in both sets, 0-6 and 1-6.
The adjacent court’s matchup of the Blue and White’s Adrianna Cabahug against the Gold and Blue’s JM Carcueva saw a similar fate. The Bulldog made easy work of her counterpart as her shots smashed through Cabahug to claim both sets, 6-0 and 6-1, and secure NU’s second team-tie score of the day.
Looking to lean on her winning momentum in the Battle of Katipunan yesterday, Althea Martirez stepped on the court to face Jasmin Jaran. The Blue Eagle was headstrong but fell short in building any rhythm as she stumbled in both sets, 2-6 and 1-6, leading to NU’s third team-tie point to secure the win.
With NU already assured of the match victory, the Katipunan-based pair of Raizel Coco and Audrey Ruiz stepped on the court with grit and determination to challenge Juliana Carvajal and Luivy Carvajal. However, the Blue and White’s resolve was not enough as the Nationalian doubles put on a two-set masterclass and shut the Eagles down, 1-6 and 0-6.
Hoping to at least escape the match with a team-tie point, Zainna Omar and Angela Buyante went head-to-head with NU’s Adie Abadia and Rovie Baulete. However, the Bulldogs showed no mercy as they closed out the day by sweeping the Blue Eagles, 6-0, in both sets.
The Blue and White will look to clinch their first win in their final match of the season as they take on the De La Salle Lady Tennisters next Sunday, March 30, at 7:00 AM in the same venue.
