THE ATENEO Fencing Team put up a formidable showing at the Moohun PBT Fencing Minime & Veteran 2025, securing multiple podium finishes and commendable placements across all categories. The event took place from February 14 to 16 at Fashion Island Mall in Bangkok, Thailand.
Andre Dominic Agatep led the charge with his silver finish in the U-23 men’s saber, demonstrating sharp footwork and precise bladework. Mirroring this achievement, Kaikaku Dela Serna showcased resilience and tactical precision throughout her bouts to also clinch silver in the U-23 saber in the women’s division.
The Blue Eagles also delivered strong performances across the saber events. Maiev Tyrande Boy (6th), Patricia Jeanine Cablay (7th), Danica Isabelle Castro (14th), and Kristine Vicente (16th) secured competitive placements in the women’s bracket. Meanwhile, Thomas Robert “Toby” Cabrera (8th), Men’s Team Captain Enrico Lucio Suplico (11th), and Raphael Martin “Ram” Jimenez (13th) put up determined fights in the men’s category.
In foil, on the other hand, Jaime Angelo Torres placed 10th in the U-23 men’s division, while Beatrice Noelle Ursolino (12th) and Ma. Hannah Dominique Morico (13th) exhibited consistency and adaptability as they finished within the top half of the women’s event.
Furthermore, the épée category saw Women’s Team Captain Francesca Bettina Bernabe rank 13th in the U-23 women’s event, while in the men’s draw, Ramon Angelo Gabriel Nuñez (14th), Jotham Thai (21st), and Zebastian Largo (22nd) put up competitive performances against a strong field.
Guided by Coach Edward Daliva, Coach Veena Nuestro, and Commissioner Walter Torres, the Blue Eagles demonstrated discipline and refined technique throughout the tournament, marking another step forward in their development on the international stage.
Sabreur Agatep, who previously represented the Philippines at the Southeast Asian Games, credited his silver finish to his parents and teammates while giving special thanks to Coach Daliva.
“I attribute my success to several key people: my parents and family, whose unwavering support has been invaluable; my teammates, who have been with me throughout the competition, constantly uplifting each other; and most importantly, my coach, Edward Vivas Daliva, whose guidance and dedication have been instrumental in my preparation and performance during the tournament,” the fencer shared.
Agatep emphasized the value of the event, as it helped elevate the entire fencing squad in preparation for the upcoming University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 87 tournament.
“Competing internationally gave us insights into our strengths and the necessary adjustments we need to make, ultimately helping us refine our game and gain a competitive edge,” he concluded.
