CAPPING OFF their stint at the 2025 Jesuit Athletic Meet (JAM), the Ateneo Women’s Football Team (AWFT) continued their dominant form, clinching a first-place finish after defeating the Ateneo de Naga University’s (AdNU) Golden Knights.
This result marked the end of AWFT’s near-flawless run, in which they scored a combined total of 51 goals while only conceding four.
The two matches were held earlier today at the Ateneo Senior High School Formation and Learning Center Building in Quezon City.
Women’s Futsal vs. Xavier University–Ateneo de Cagayan (XU)
Ateneo de Manila started the day overpowering their opponents, scoring consecutive goals for a complete blowout victory, 8-0. Angely Alferez spearheaded the Blue Eagles, netting a hat-trick during the win.
Within the first seven minutes of the match, the Blue Eagles soared to a 3-0 lead, as their relentless attacks stunned their Cagayan-based adversaries. Despite XU fortifying their defensive schemes at the 16th-minute mark, the AWFT still identified several scoring opportunities and widened their lead to 5-0 by the end of the first half.
The second half saw the Blue Eagles keeping up their energy on both ends of the courts, which resulted in a quick eight-nil victory for the Ateneo de Manila.
Finals vs. AdNU
With just one win away from gold, the AWFT found themselves challenged by Ateneo de Naga in the finals, who looked to come out of the tournament with an upset victory. However, the Katipunan-based squad showed no signs of slowing down, ultimately securing the gold medal with a 9-1 scoreline.
The championship showdown opened with Rae Tolentino scoring first blood for Ateneo de Manila. This early aggression slowed down for a majority of the first half as the Golden Knights performed effectively on the defensive end.
Despite the challenge, the AWFT clicked into gear once again, scoring three consecutive goals by the end of the first whistle, 4-0.
After the break, the Blue Eagles were caught off guard by an impressive goal from their Naga-based counterparts, 4-1, but quickly regained their composure later in the half. Three consecutive points in a span of one minute showcased AWFT’s reestablished poise to further push the lead, 7-1.
With the result being virtually decided by the closing moments of the game, the Blue Eagles converted two more goals to ultimately secure the championship with the final score of 9-1.
Following the victory, Alferez—who scored a hat-trick in the Finals—was crowned the Most Valuable Player of the entire tournament. This award served as a fitting end to Ateneo de Manila’s exceptional campaign.
