THE ATENEO Blue Eagles earned different outcomes in their respective matches on day three of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) Beach Volleyball tournament earlier today at the Sands at SM by the Bay in Pasay City.

The Women’s Beach Volleyball Team emerged from the day unscathed, besting Katipunan rival University of the Philippines (UP), 2-1. Meanwhile, the Men’s Team was unable to match this result, falling to long-standing rival De La Salle University (DLSU), 1-2.

Women’s match vs. UP

Bringing with them the momentum they sustained from their first win of the season against La Salle, the Blue Eagles once again unleashed the pair of Liz Lomocso and Grydelle Matibag to combat the Fighting Maroons. UP countered the strong Ateneo duo with Euri Eslapor and Julia de Leon, as the two teams locked in for a heated battle that saw Ateneo in their second three-set match of the season.

Unsullied by the suspension of games last November 17, the formidable duo of Lomocso and Matibag showed their experience and poise, besting their Katipunan co-tenants in three sets, 21-12, 16-21, 15-11.

Men’s match vs. DLSU

Hoping to climb the standings in the Men’s Division, JM Yu and Amil Pacinio donned the Blue and White once more to face DLSU’s Andre Espejo and Von Marata. Looking to replicate the Women’s victory earlier in the day, the duo from Loyola Heights started off strong to take the first set, 21-17.

Despite their strong start, however, the tandem could not sustain their energy, succumbing in the second frame, 14-21, and ultimately dropping the match in a nail-biting third set, 13-15.

With today’s outcomes, the Men’s Team will look to avenge their day three loss tomorrow at 7:45 AM as they kick off their two-game slate, while the Women’s Team aims to add two more to their two-game win streak as they start their day at 10:00 AM at the same venue.
