THE ATENEO Swimming Team immediately proved to be an indomitable force in the tides after clinching 12 medals and setting two new records on the first day of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 Swimming tournament. The events took place earlier today at the New Clark City Aquatic Center in Capas, Tarlac.

Freestyle

Veterans Rafael Barreto (52.84) and Marco Daos (52.90) demonstrated their masterful technique, clinching first and second place, respectively, in the 100 Long Course (LC) Meter Freestyle Event. Meanwhile, standout rookie Ivo Enot (53.09) completed the podium lineup as he claimed the third seat. Charles Ticbaen (53.53), on the other hand, claimed the fourth spot for the event.

Determined to match the pace, Mishka Sy (1:00.07) managed to bag the silver medal for the Women’s 100m event.

In the 800m race, the Blue and White dominated the podium as Miguel Barreto (8:33.28) and Daos (8:45.39) claimed the first and third spots, respectively. Joshua Del Rio (8:57.82) and Joaquin Custodio (9:15.88) also put on a commendable performance as they finished off at fifth and ninth place, respectively.

Individual Medley (IM)

Miguel Barreto continued his stellar run in the 200m IM, collecting another gold medal after a commanding performance at 2:07.79.  Meanwhile, Francis Espiritu (2:14.26) and Del Rio (2:18.43) finished in fifth and eighth place, respectively.

In the Women’s Division, Sy displayed sheer endurance to claim another gold for Ateneo in the 200m IM event after clocking in at 2:25.74 seconds. Meanwhile, Lora Amoguis placed fourth in the same event with a time of 2.31.19.

Relay

The 200m Relay for Men’s and Women’s proved to be one of the greatest performances in Ateneo Swimming. The Men’s Team, composed of Rian Tirol, Renzo Tirol, Nathan Sason, and Enot, set a new UAAP record of 1:45.31 seconds. The previous UAAP record was 1:46.91 which was previously held by the Season 79 Blue Eagles.
