THE ATENEO Chess Teams commenced stage two of their respective University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 87 campaigns earlier this afternoon at the Adamson University Gym in the City of Manila.

The Men’s Team faltered against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Male Woodpushers with a decisive 0-4 defeat, while the Women’s Team settled for a 2-2 deadlock with the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs.

Taking on the Male Woodpushers were Paul Llanillo, Team Captain Khalil Kis-ing, Knarf Batislaong, and Norberto Manuel.

Despite their valiant efforts, all four Blue Eagles were shut out on the boards, conceding a combined four points to UST’s Christian Daluz, Chester Reyes, Melito Ocsan Jr., and Julius Gonzales.

Meanwhile, facing the Lady Bulldogs were Team Captain Kristine Flores, Elayza Villa, Lexie Hernandez, and Jiessel Marino.

Villa and Hernandez successfully secured two points for the Blue Eagles after defeating NU’s Natasja Balabbo and Princes Ballete, respectively. Meanwhile, Flores and Marino fell to Allaney Doroy and Jelaine Adriano of the Jhocson-based squad.

With these results, the Ateneo Women’s Chess Team looks to secure their first second stage victory in their contest versus home turf bets Adamson Lady Falcons this Wednesday, 2:00 PM, at the same venue. Meanwhile, the Ateneo Men’s Chess Team aims to return to the winning column against the Far Eastern University Men’s Chess Team this coming Saturday, 1:00 PM, at the same venue.
