LOYOLA GAMING (LG) teams Atlas and Hydra finished third and second, respectively, in their Group Stages, advancing to the AcadArena (AA) Alliance Games (ALLG) Season 3 Playoffs at this year’s CONQuest Festival. LG Atlas was drawn to Group A of the ALLG Valorant Tournament and played from April 15 to 29, while LG Hydra competed in Group B of the League of Legends Tournament from April 16 to 30.

Both squads will fight for the crown at the 2023 CONQuest Festival starting June 2, 2023 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

LG Atlas (Valorant)

The Blue and White kicked off their campaign in Group A against the National University-Fairview (NUFV) Fervent on April 15. In their first game with the newly-formed roster, it was evident that chemistry was still being built on during the match. Despite their valiant stand, LG’s close match with NUFV concluded with a score of 14-16.

Having gained experience from their previous outing, LG Atlas entered their two-game slate on April 29 with a sense of urgency, needing to win both matches in order to advance. To begin their push for the playoffs, the Katipunan-based squad went up against the University of San Carlos (USC) Ego Warriors.

En route to their first win of the Group Stage, Juami “LG Wameroo” Alcazar led the way with a 24-kill outing using Sova. An incredible effort in the 18th round saw Alcazar post four kills, with two ultimate kills on the post-plant after an opening pick, followed by his penultimate kill to seal the round for LG Atlas. He concluded his stellar performance with back-to-back triple kills to close out the game, 13-10.

With one game left in the Group Stage, Alcazar shared how the team was motivated after dropping their first match of the tournament. “We’re just looking to play our best later and secure our spot at CONQuest 2023,” said Alcazar.

Super-sub Jose “LG Zief” Verde played a vital role in their final match of the day versus Southwestern University – PHINMA (SWU PHINMA) Cobras Esports. Verde’s 21-kill performance on Viper lifted the Blue and White in their tightly-contested match. Down 10-11, Verde tallied seven kills in the final three rounds, along with a triple kill in their last round to upset the first-seeded Cobras Esports, 13-11.

The Blue and White finished with a point difference of three, placing third in their group. LG Atlas will face the University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJ-R) Adelante Esports in the first round of the Final Stage at CONQuest 2023.

LG Hydra (League of Legends)

With a perfect 2-0 first day in Group B, LG Hydra secured their playoff bid against the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)’s Pylon Ypsilos and the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Oblation Esports (OBE) Bathala.

LG’s Josh “LG Znake” Dinio stood out in their opening match against PUP, copping seven kills and six assists with Ziggs. Dinio’s impressive backdoor was the highlight of the game, with a combined effort from LG Hydra. In a 2-vs-2 situation, with Pylon Ypsilos’ players at low health, Dinio teleported towards an incoming wave on top in order to backdoor the PUP side. The opposing Ahri managed to return to their base, nearly killing Znake, but was thwarted by a well-timed Zhonya’s Hourglass, allowing Dinio to seal the game for LG.

In the Battle of Katipunan, Gaetano “LG Galatadiff” Scarlata Jr. put up a dominant display against OBE, with 15 kills and four assists. Using Gragas, Scarlata had the highest kill participation, allowing LG Hydra to snowball with his proactive play and eventually leading the team to sweep their April 16 slate of games.

However, the Blue and White eventually succumbed to their only loss of the Group Stage to De La Salle University’s Viridis Arcus (VA) Fonce on April 30. Dustin “VA Izumi” Tan led the Taft-based squad with 14 kills as the mid-laner dominated the match to secure the top spot in Group B.

Finishing with a 2-1 win-loss card, LG Hydra placed second overall in their group, advancing to the semifinals outright. The Blue and White will await the winner of the first round playoff matchup between University of San Agustin (USA) SAGE Esports and Oblation Esports Bathala.
