THE ATENEO Men’s and Women’s Beach Volleyball Teams saw contrasting results on the second day of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 Beach Volleyball Tournament.

The Women’s Team is still hunting for their first win as they dropped both of their matches today, resulting in them sliding into last place in the overall standings. Meanwhile, the Men’s Team won their lone match, bringing their tally up to two wins and one loss so far this season. With this victory, the boys maintain their fourth-place status after all teams with better records won all of their games today as well.

In the women’s division, Pia Ildefonso and Yssa Nisperos handed the National University Lady Bulldogs (3-0) another win after being defeated in straight sets, 12-21, 21-14. The Katipunan-based duo was unable to bounce back in their second game of the day as they were swept by the defending champions, the University of Santo Tomas Lady Spikers (3-0), 8-21, 14-21.

“We need to become a threat to the next teams and we can start showing them na we can perform and convert our movement to points starting off with the basic skills,” Nisperos shared when asked what their team needs to work on in order to secure a win. “Since we’re first-timers playing beach volleyball together, we should improve on our chemistry to have confidence in each other,” she added.

Over in the men’s division, Jian Salarzon and Amil Pacinio chalked up another victory for the Blue and White after they toppled the University of the East Red Warriors in a flawless game, 21-10, 21-17.

The Women’s Team looks to turn their season around in their incoming matchup against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons at 8:00 AM. Meanwhile, the Men’s Team aims to continue their good form as they battle the same university at 10:40 AM. Both games will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at Sands SM by the Bay in Pasay City.
