THE ATENEO Women’s Football Team (AWFT) lose their second Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Women’s League Cup game, 2-3, after conceding a late goal to Tuloy Football Club (TFC). The match was held earlier today at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

It was an action-packed game right from the start of the whistle as both squads threatened to score the opening goal. Eventually, in the 27th minute, Jenny Perez of Tuloy FC kicked a roaring shot that was perfectly placed in the top left corner of Casals Chelssy’s goal, 0-1. Tuloy FC then doubled their advantage in the 40th minute, with Jonalyn Lucban corking out a cross to the box which ended up being a looping ball into Ateneo’s goal.

However, instead of folding, the Blue and White swiftly replied just before halftime. In the 42nd minute, Joyce Semacio scored a thumping free-kick which Tuloy FC goalkeeper Mykaella Abeto failed to deal with. Three minutes later, Semacio grabbed her brace after her shot outside the box was deflected by Tuloy FC defender Jamielyn before going in. Thus, the eventful first 45 minutes ended with both teams at two goals apiece.

Upon the resumption of play, both teams intensely battled for midfield control at the forefront. However, despite the high activity which kept both of the squads’ keepers busy, neither the Blue Eagles nor Tuloy FC could inflict the finishing blow.

As the game’s result hung in the balance, Tuloy FC’s Perez received an overhead pass which she was able to control calmly. The forward Perez was then left with only Casals to beat at the net. Despite the Atenean goalkeeper’s best efforts to parry the ball away, Perez ended up winning the ball back, stowing one away in the back of the net at the 87th minute for the match-winning goal.

The Blue Eagles look to bounce back from this loss as they go up against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday, November 16 at 6:30 PM at the PFF National Training Center. Fans can watch Ateneo’s games live on PFF’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
