Ateneo FAST Women’s Team picks up four medals in Day 2 of UAAP Swimming Tournament

THE SECOND day of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85 Men’s and Women’s Swimming Tournament went underway earlier today at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool in the City of Manila. Bouncing back from a shaky start in the opening day, the Women’s Team saw drastic improvements in their campaign to defend the three-peat crown.

In the 50-meter Breaststroke event, National Team member Thanya Dela Cruz, Sofia Isip, and Ronalyn Lalimo competed for the Blue Eagles. Dela Cruz clinched a gold medal after finishing at 31.37 seconds, while Isip secured the bronze after finishing third with 34.80 seconds. Finally, Lalimo wrapped up the event for the Blue and White by placing fifth with a time of 35.27 seconds. 

Samantha Coronel and Marjorie Manguiat were the lone Blue Eagles competing in the the 200-meter Backstroke and the 100-meter Butterfly events, respectively. Coronel bagged a silver medal after coming in second place with a time of 2:27.15, while SEA Games-medalist Manguiat placed fifth with a recorded time of 1:08.17. 

Ending the second day was the company of Kirsten Manuel, Sofia Isip, Charllyn Romanos, and Marjorie Manguiat in the 4×100 Freestyle relay event. It was another podium finish for the Blue Eagles as they came in second place with a time of 4:14.12. 

The Ateneo Women’s Swimming Team will swim the waves of their momentum through Day 3 of the UAAP Season 85 Swimming Tournament tomorrow, November 26, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in the City of Manila.
