Ateneo records second straight loss in Spikers’ Turf tournament

STILL UNABLE to secure their first win, the Ateneo-Fudgee Barr Blue Eagles surrender to the Philippine Navy Men’s Volleyball Team (PGJC-Navy) in three swift sets, 22-25, 19-25, 19-25, in the Spikers’ Turf Open Conference earlier today at the Paco Arena in the City of Manila.

Recording their second straight loss in the tournament, the Blue and White fall to the seventh—and last—place in the standings. Ateneo now has a 0-2 record after the second day of the elimination round.

Striking at the wings, Rookie-duo Amil Pacinio and Kennedy Batas led the Blue Eagles in the scoring department with eight points apiece. Veteran middle blocker Jettlee Gopio followed suit with seven points to his name.

The Blue Eagles were plagued by errors throughout the game, as they failed to orchestrate any kind of comeback against a veteran-laden Navy squad. Led by the duo of Joshua Umandal and Joeven Dela Vega–who contributed 13 and 10 markers, respectively–the Sea Lions made quick work of the Blue and White with their tantalizing speed and lockdown floor defense.

Ateneo-Fudgee Barr will look to bounce back from consecutive losses as they go head-to-head versus the Santa Rosa City Lions on Tuesday, September 6 at 5:30 PM. Fans can watch the games live on OneSports, Cignal Play, Smart GigaPlay and Spikers’ Turf official website: https://spikersturf.ph/live.
