FOLLOWING THE mock polls conducted from March 7 to 11, the Sanggunian endorsed Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan for the 2022 elections. The polls were conducted in collaboration with the student councils from the other seven schools comprising the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Sanggunian President Kara Angan, along with the student government representatives from Adamson University (AdU), De La Salle University (DLSU), Far Eastern University (FEU), National University (NU), University of the East – Manila (UE), University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), and University of Santo Tomas (UST), released the results of the polls in the April 2 press conference.

Similar to the Sanggunian, the student governments from AdU, FEU, NU, UPD, and UST endorsed the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem for the Presidential and Vice Presidential bid. The UE Student Government only endorsed Robredo because they did not conduct a mock vice-presidential poll. Meanwhile, the DLSU Student Government will be conducting its mock polls in April.

Despite the collaboration, Angan stated during the conference that their endorsement is not representative of the UAAP as a whole, and is instead reflective of the universities’ surveys and principles. “There are factors to consider before endorsing as a coalition, [and] some universities are yet to release results of their polls. We cannot speak yet as a whole,” she said.

In regards to other endorsements from other Jesuit universities, Angan mentioned that Buklod Atenista will release individual results from their mock polls and that conversations are still ongoing for University-wide endorsements.

Mock poll results

The Loyola Schools (LS) Student Mock Polls recorded the overall student preferences for the Presidential, Vice-Presidential, Senatorial, and Party-list candidates. The polls followed a non-probabilistic approach and were disseminated to both undergraduate and graduate-level students, totaling a possible 10,995 respondents in the LS. However, the results revealed a 30.40 percent turnout rate with 3,343 respondents, with 93 percent of the respondents being registered voters.

Among the 10 presidential aspirants, independent candidate Robredo topped the survey with 3,197 (95.63%) votes. Labor leader Leody de Guzman came in second with 61 (1.82%) votes, followed by Aksyon Demokratiko candidate Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso with 28 (0.84%) votes.

Completing the Top Five Presidential candidates in the LS polls are Partido Federal ng Pilipinas candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.—son of late dictator Ferdinand Marcos—with 26 (0.78%) votes and Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson with 23 (0.69%) votes.

Meanwhile, Liberal Party candidate Pangilinan drew the support of 2,909 (87.02%) students for the Vice Presidential bid. Former Akbayan Representative and social activist Walden Bello was runner-up to Pangilinan with 249 (7.45%) votes. Coming in third was Dr. Willie Ong with 57 (1.71%) votes, followed by Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto with 54 (1.62%) votes. Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte—daughter of incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte—completes the Top Five vice-presidential candidates with 52 (1.56%) votes.

Additionally, the polls revealed that the top 12 senatorial candidates are Chel Diokno, Risa Hontiveros, Leila de Lima, Neri Colmenares, Teddy Baguilat, Luke Espiritu, Antonio Trillanes, Sonny Matula, Alexander Lacson, Richard Gordon, Elmer Labog, and Samira Gutoc.

Diokno led the Senatorial survey with 3,206 (95.90%) votes, followed by Hontiveros with 2,982 (82.20%) votes. De Lima is third with 2,544 (76.10%) votes, followed closely by Neri Colmenares’ 2,531 (75.71%) votes. Baguilat completes the Top Five senatorial candidates with 2,300 (68.80%) votes.

Kabataan Partylist has also gathered the most votes among respondents with 1,109 (33.20%) votes, with Gabriela Partylist as runner-up with 565 (16.92%) votes.
