In a battle for the number one seed in Group A, the Loyola Gaming (LG) Terra (3-2) fell to the University of San Carlos (USC) Mustang Warriors (5-0), 13-6, in the Esports AcadArena (EAA) University Alliance Cup – Valorant Season 2 yesterday. Following the loss, LG Terra settled for the third seed while USC completed a bracket sweep.
At the draft, LG Terra bannered a traditional lineup of Raze, Phoenix, Sova, Omen, and Cypher. Meanwhile, the Mustang Warriors showcased their patented three duelist comp with Raze, Reyna, and Jett while being supported by Omen and Sova. Considered as the marquee matchup of Group A, USC’s number one ranked offense is what ultimately overwhelmed LG Terra’s number one ranked defense.
The match opened with three quick unanswered rounds from the Mustang Warriors’ top fragger Raze for USC. Despite an eco round in round four, LG Terra showed their defensive prowess to capture their first round of the match. The succeeding rounds saw the Blue and White match USC’s blow per blow with another amazing eco round in the 10th round, 4-6. However, the Mustang Warriors secured the next six rounds to build a staggering 4-12 lead.
In round 15, LG Terra stopped the Mustang Warriors’ momentum by securing two quick rounds against USC, 6-12. However, the comeback attempt was too late as the Mustang Warriors’ aggressive peeks on the defensive end finished the game in round 19, 6-13.
Despite losing the game, LG Terra viewed their defeat as a learning experience and is now focused on winning it all in the playoffs. “Moving forward, the team’s main goal for the playoffs is to win the championship,” Raphael “Raphitb” Santiago said.
LG Terra will face the Holy Angel University Valiant Archangels in their first playoff tournament on April 18 in a bid to qualify for the semi-finals. Fans can stream matches on https://www.twitch.tv/acadarenaph or https://www.facebook.com/AcadArenaPH.
