DESPITE A replay of the match, Loyola Gaming (LG) Blaze showed their prowess against the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) Gearhawks, 13-4, in their second group match of the Esports AcadArena (EAA) University Alliance Cup 2020 on October 24. This win puts LG Blaze at the top of their group standings with a 2-0 record.
Error 51
Early in the match, LG Blaze started off strong by attaining an early 6-3 lead against TUP. However, after TUP experienced error 51—which is characterized by issues with the party system that the Gearhawks used. Because of this, LG Blaze was forced to go back to the drawing board and replay the entire game off-stream.
“We had an option to continue since it’s part of the rules that once the pause time exceeds 15 minutes, the match would be resumed,” said LG Blaze team manager Patrick Lanuza. “But our players didn’t feel like continuing a 5 vs 3 match since that’s weird and what good would that do to our reputation?” he added.
The remake
In the earlier part of the off-stream remake, TUP turned the tables around and stunned LG Blaze with a 2-4 start. However, the tides shifted in round seven as LG Blaze’s Joshua Miguel “Rikes” B. Ulanday miraculously pulled off a triple kill to give them the confidence boost the Blue and White needed. With momentum on their side, LG Blaze adapted to TUP’s playstyle and bulldozed their way to a 6-0 run to enter the halftime break with an 8-4 lead.
After the break, LG Blaze continued their hot streak as they finished off the Gearhawks on a 5-0 run to bag the victory, 13-4.
“I would say that we did a decent job considering the map played wasn’t really our best map, and we were playing with a new agent lineup. But we could’ve done way better and avoided some of the mistakes we made,” said LG Blaze Captain Ignatius “1ge” Cu.
LG Blaze will look to continue their winning ways as they go head to head against the University of San Carlos Mustang Warriors on Saturday, October 31, 3:30 PM. Fans can stream the matches on https://www.twitch.tv/acadarenaph.
