AFTER A tough series of losses in the first round, the Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles returned to the Quadricentennial Pavilion in the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Manila, for their second match of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 Chess Tournament on Saturday, September 22.

Cervero comes up trumps

Facing off against Adamson University, the Blue Eagles employed a new rotation, with Team Captain Gavin Ong giving way to Keefe Tan. Vince Edralin, Tristan Cervero, and Alexander Santos completed the lineup for the Blue and White. Learning from their shortcomings on the first matchday, the Blue Eagles managed to garner their first point of the season with Tristan Cervero managing a win.

Nadera adds to her winning streak
Similarly, the Lady Eagles changed their lineup as they looked to add to their points tally this season. Team Captain Jill Feliciano made way as Laila Nadela, Alexis Osena, Mine Sandoval, and Merlene Membrere donned the Blue and White to challenge the UST Tigresses.

As with matchday one, the Lady Eagles ended with just a single win. Only the undefeated rookie Nadera garnered another victory to prevent a sweep against the UST Tigresses.

After the match, Feliciano said that the results of Saturday’s match were disappointing. She felt that her teammates had played their individual games well, but unfortunately fell short of grabbing victories. Feliciano hopes that in the next matches the Blue and Eagles will keep on playing to win and keep pushing for a better finish this season.
The Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles will look to continue their improved outputs on Sunday, September 23, at the Quadricentennial Pavilion in the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
