THE LADY beach spikers fall to a strong Far Eastern University (FEU) team in the first game but they immediately shook off the loss with a victory against Adamson University (ADU) on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the SM Sands in Pasay City.

The Lady Eagles are currently at 2-2 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Beach Volleyball tournament after Sunday’s two games.

For the first match, Ateneo’s Michelle Morente and Kim Gequillana made a valiant effort to make a comeback at the end of the first set, but an error on an attack gave FEU the first set. Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza of FEU obtained and maintained the lead early and throughout the entirety of the second set. FEU came out victorious 21-18, 21-13.

Their second game later in the evening spelled a different story for the Lady Eagles. The first set was a close battle but mistakes by Adamson had them concede the first set to Ateneo 21-19. The second set showed a better performance of the lady beach spikers. Aside from forcing numerous errors on NU, the Ateneo pair also scored a handful of points form the service area. The Lady Eagles dominated the second set and won the match (21-12).

According to Coach Parley Tupaz, the Lady Eagles faced problems with their serves in the first game but improved in the second game. He also praised the performance of Morente in the closing minutes and was impressed with the overall defense of the team. An impressive performance from a team that only had one week to practice in the sand due to the Shakey’s V-League that only recently concluded.

The team finishes the day with a 2-2 record, which keeps their final four hopes very much alive. They will be facing the University of the East and the University of the Philippines on Monday, October 3, 2016 at the SM Sands in Pasay City.
