TEAM CAPTAIN
Seanne Cheung
For someone who started training in college, Seanne Cheung has definitely come far. This year, her journey comes full circle as she leads the blue and white this season.
“I was hoping they could get the puso lang. Puso and tiwala. That’s what I am looking for in the members this year. I hope they could, even in training, even in competitions, even in small competitions.”
RETURNING VETERANS
Rhea Chong
With the departure of senior players, the onus is on Rhea Chong to deliver a medal for the team. She came close in last year’s proceedings, getting into the bronze medal rubber match in the -90kg weight division, but had to settle for 4th place.
NEW RECRUITS
Paula Rivera
De La Salle Zobel alumna Paula Rivera was expected to give the team a boost in last year’s tournament as she copped a bronze in the 3rd Mayor Ony Ferrer Judo Championships. However, an untimely ACL injury pushed her debut to this season, where her contribution will be sorely needed after the departure of the team’s veterans.
COACH’S CORNER
Robert Divina
Robert Divina is a former team member and head coach for the Philippine Judo team. This is his eighth year as a mentor for the judokas of Katipunan.
“Malaki ang chance sa college ng lalaki na makuha namin ulit ang overall. Sa babae naman, medyo alanganin kami dahil karamihan dito puro bago, pero gagawin namin yung best. May laban pa rin.”
