THE ATENEO Lady Eagles defeated the University of Perpetual Help in straight sets, 27-25, 25-13, 25-16 on Monday, August 15 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Bea de Leon led the Blue and White with 12 points, 4 of which came from blocks. Ana Gopico followed de Leon’s offensive output with 11 points.

Setters Jamie Lavitoria started in the first set, while Deanna Wong was given her chance to set for the Lady Eagles during the early portions of the match. Wong showed a lot of potential, feeding Gopico and de Leon with precise sets. However, she was replaced with the fever-stricken Jia Morado during the second set. This change sparked an 11-point lead in the second set, which proved to be a game changing moment.

After the dominating the second set, the Lady Eagles continued the momentum in their third set, establishing a 12-point lead early on. The team then went on to seal their first win in the Shakey’s V-League.

After two defeats in the tournament, this was a crucial elimination match for the team. “Para tumaas yung morale ng mga bata for the UAAP ([The win was important] as it boosted the girls’ morale for the UAAP),” Coach Parley remarked.

This win puts the Lady Eagles at 1-2 in the elimination round standings of the Shakey’s V-League.

Their next game will be against National University, to be held on Saturday, August 20.
