Eagles off to a slow start in Day 1 of UAAP Fencing

The Ateneo Blue and Lady Eagles are off to a slow start in the first day of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 78 Fencing tournament held at the Blue Eagle Gym in the Ateneo de Manila University. The Blue and White ended the day with no podium finishes in the Men’s Épée Individual, Men’s Saber Individual, and Women’s Foil Individual events.

Blue fencers Simon Borja and Joao Celestino both finished the poulings with a 2-3 win-loss record while ranking sixth and ninth, respectively, in the Men’s Épée Individual event. Meanwhile, the Men’s Saber Individual event saw Daniel Dickson Yu and Ethan Joshua Bennett place fifth and eighth, respectively. Bennett was able to acquire a win-loss record of 1-4, while Yu finished with a 2-3 record after the poulings.

On the other hand, lady fencers Antonia Elumba and Andrea Ignacio finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Women’s Foil Individual event, concluding the first day of the UAAP Fencing Championship with a 4-1 win-loss record.

The Blue and Lady Eagles aim to give a better performance in Women’s Èpèe, Men’s Foil, and Women’s Saber Individual events on the second day of the UAAP Fencing tournament on Thursday, February 11 at the Blue Eagle Gym in the Ateneo de Manila University.
