AFTER A slow start in the first quarter, Team Glory Be of the Ateneo Men’s Basketball team uncorked a massive scoring run to advance to the semifinals of the Fr. Martin Cup; the Blue Eagles defeated the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 84-62, on Sunday, November 8 inside the Far Eastern University gymnasium in Morayta.

After a lethargic beginning by his starting five, Head Coach Yuri Escueta went to his second unit, who responded by increasing the Eagles’ intensity and the pace of the game en route to a 30-14 advantage after the first quarter.

The rest of the game saw the Blue Eagles’ defense struggling to adjust to the tight calls of the referees, as they were whistled for 31 fouls to put their counterparts in the penalty situation for most of the game.

Dan Wong led four players in double figures with 21 points, highlighted by five triples. Backing Wong’s performance was rookie Shaggy Allmond who had 12 points, Kemark Cariño with 11, and Cole Micek who had 10.

The team will play the San Beda Red Lions-A in the semifinal round of the tournament on 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 14, at the Arellano University gymnasium in Legarda, Manila.
