Lady Eagles downed by Lady Archers in first UAAP Women’s Badminton contest

THE ATENEO Blue Eagles lost to the De La Salle Lady Archers, 1-4 ,on Saturday, September 19, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Badminton Hall in Manila.

In the first singles match featured Lady Eagles Trixie Malibiran against Aryan Rivera. Malibiran won the first set 21-10, dropped the second, 12-21, and was unfortunately unable to play on as she suffered a knee injury attempting to return a smash in the third set. This gave the Lady Archers the upper hand in the tie, 1-0.

The lady shuttlers were able to bounce back as Bianca Carlos defeated Lady Archer Iyah Sevilla in straight sets, 21-10, 21-14. Thus, the team tie was levelled again at 1-1.

The first doubles match was again forfeited, giving the lead back to La Salle, 1-2.

In the second doubles match, lady shuttlers Bianca Carlos and Geva de Vera fell to Kristel Salatan and Isay Leonardo, 19-21, 12-21.

Cassie Lim fought hard for the Blue and White in the third singles match against Nicole Albo. Despite losing the first set 13-21, she recovered to win the second set 21-16, before Albo overwhelemed her to drop the third set, 16-21. The tie finished Ateneo 1-4 La Salle.

This loss puts the Lady Eagles at 0-1 in the elimination round standings of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Women’s Badminton Tournament.

Their next game will be against the Adamson Lady Falcons on Sunday, September 20, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Badminton Hall in Manila.
