THE ATENEO Lady Eagles defeated the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in three straight sets, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18, on Saturday, August 29 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

This win puts the Lady Eagles at 8-0 in the elimination round standings of the Shakey’s V-League tournament.

Alyssa Valdez led the Blue and White with 15 points, while Player of the Game Jhoana Maraguinot followed her teammate’s offensive output with 11 points.

The Lady Eagles came out strong in their first quarterfinals game, displaying well-communicated receptions and combination plays, especially with the improved attacks of both Maraguinot and Kim Gequillana.

Meanwhile, the Lady Tamaraws showed their resilience, as they successfully battled for their points in the last set of the match right before the Lady Eagles claimed the victory. Although the Blue and White lost a few points due to their own errors as well, this quarterfinals match still remains one of their best games in the league so far.

“In the past trainings, we [did] not really get to communicate, but now we had teamwork and this allowed us win in three straight sets,” says spiker Gizelle Tan.

Their next game will be another quarterfinals match against National University, 3:00 PM, Sunday, September 6 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
