THE ATENEO Blue Spikers defeated the University of the East Red Warriors in four sets, 25-14, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-19, on January 4 at the Fil Oil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
This victory puts the Blue Spikers at 4-2 in the elimination round standings.
The Blue Spikers had a 15-point difference in attacks against the Red Warriors. They also tallied nine successful blocks and six service aces.
Marck Espejo topped the team in scoring with 21 points followed up by Ysay Marasigan’s 16, Josh Villanueva’s 12 and Rex Intal’s seven markers. Ish Polvorosa distributed the ball with 32 excellent sets while Tomie Rivera notched eight excellent digs.
“For our training during the break, what we did was mostly recalling what we haven’t done,” says Coach Almadro in a mix of English and Filipino. “Now that we’re on a 4-2 standing, we view the two losses as sorry losses.”
Their next game will be against the top competitor, the National University Bulldogs, 10:00 AM, Sunday, January 11, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
