THE ATENEO Blue Booters bested the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, 4-1, on Saturday, November 29, at the Moro Lorenzo Field in the Ateneo.

In the 14th minute, all players in the UE box were unable to make contact with Emmanuel Paredes’ free kick except rookie center-back Jeremiah Rocha, who tapped in Ateneo’s first goal of the season in his debut as a Blue Booter.

In the 31st minute, Paredes notched his second assist as another of his free kicks resulted in a powerful header by Carlos Liay. At the half, Ateneo held a 2-0 advantage.

The second half of the match featured another debut goal, this time for Julian Roxas, who turned in Mikko Mabanag’s corner in the 50th minute that positioned the score at 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Rookie right-back Jin Montemayor scored his debut goal in the 66th minute after he received beautiful through ball from striker Emilio Acosta that cut between two UE defenders.

The Red Warriors got their consolation goal in the 82nd minute through their Khyndale Manzo’s strike after the Ateneo defense was not able to clear the ball.

With the victory the Blue Booters are at 1-0 in the elimination standings with a +3 goal difference. Their next game will be against National University at 4 PM on Saturday, December 6 at the Moro Lorenzo Field in the Ateneo.
