TO COMPENSATE for the lack of senior representatives within the Sanggunian, the student government ratified the establishment of the Seniors’ Alliance 2014-2015 Task Force during a Central Board (CB) meeting held on July 18.

The resolution to ratify the alliance was authored by 4th Year John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) CB Representative and current Sanggunian CB Liaison Ga-el Mendoza.

Ga-el Mendoza said that due to the lack of senior executive officers (EO) and CB representatives in the Sanggunian Top 44, the Seniors’ Alliance was created to ensure that information from the Ateneo administration is communicated to this year’s graduating batch.

Only two out of a possible eight senior positions within the School Board (SB) and CB were filled after last February’s Sanggunian General Elections.

According to the resolution, the Seniors’ Alliance is headed by 4th Year JGSOM EO Kosh Descallar.

In a separate interview with The GUIDON, Ga-el Mendoza clarified that the Seniors’ Alliance would still exist even if seniors are elected into the SB and CB.

“If ever there are incoming [senior] EOs or CB [representatives], they are automatically included in the Seniors’ Alliance, although their roles [within the alliance] are still being discussed,” he explained in a mix of English and Filipino.

Members

The Seniors’ Alliance is composed of twelve seniors. Each of the four Loyola Schools—from the JGSOM, the School of Humanities (SOH), the School of Social Sciences (SOSS) and the School of Science and Engineering (SOSE)—is represented.

Each senior is in charge of coordinating with a specific department of the administration.

The majority of the members are constituents, with the exception of five officers, namely Descallar, Ga-el Mendoza, 4th Year Legal Management Course Representative Officer-in-Charge Rica Briñas, 4th Year Electronics and Communications Engineering Course Representative Carlo Elopre, and 4th Year Applied Physics with Applied Computer Systems Course Representative Christine Saavedra.

Under the terms of the resolution, all senior EOs and CB representatives are included in the Seniors’ Alliance; thus, Ga-el Mendoza and Descallar are automatically members.

According to the resolution, Ga-el Mendoza is in charge of coordinating with the Office of the Vice President for all of the office’s senior-related activities.

Descallar, aside from her duties as head, is also the point person for coordinating with the Office of Social Concern and Involvement, and the Office of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs.

Representing the rest of JGSOM are Briñas and management senior Ray Santos, who are assigned as the Sanggunian’s representative to the Ateneo Alumni Association and to the Aegis 2014 to 2015 Board, respectively.

SOH is represented by philosophy seniors Dustin Fidellaga and Nikki Uson. The resolution states that Fidellaga is the point person for issues concerning the Office of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, while Uson is in charge of the Blue Roast 2015 Head Hunt.

Meanwhile, the SOSS representatives to the Seniors’ Alliance are history senior Yna Musico and management economics senior Bernice Mendoza.

Musico is in charge of collaborating with the Office of Guidance and Counseling for all senior-related activities.

On the other hand, Bernice Mendoza is in charge of communicating with the Campus Ministry Office, as well as with the Batch 2015 ring provider, Suarez Bros.

SOSE’s representatives to the Seniors’ Alliance are Elopre, Saavedra, applied mathematical finance senior Michael Tobias and computer science senior Bagani Sulatre.

According to the resolution, Elopre is in charge of communicating with the Rizal Library and GetBlued, the official Batch 2014 to 2015 shirt provider, while Saavedra has been put in charge of communicating with the Registrar’s Office

Tobias is responsible for maintaining contact with the Loyola Schools Office of Placement and Sulatre is in charge of the creative department of the Seniors’ Alliance.
