Psychology students win Best Undergrad Thesis award and quiz bee
Two Atenean teams were awarded during the Psychological Association of the Philippines Junior Affiliates (Papja) Convention held on January 17 at the SMX Convention Center. Psychology seniors Athena Charisse Ong, Phillip Poon and Shannen Fay Sibya received the Best Undergrad Thesis award for their thesis entitled “Gender, adult attachment styles and the tendency to commit dating infidelity: A mixed method study.” The second team, composed of psychology students Liang Borlagdan, Alich Lidaga, Mark Schallenberg and Arvin Tan, won the Papja convention’s Psychology Quiz Bee Competition. SOH Sanggunian presents Arete 2014
The School of Humanities (SOH) Sanggunian School Board organized “Arete 2014: SOH Week” held from January 20 to 24, with an additional day of events held on February 1. With the theme Illuminacion, the event included an open mic event organized by the Ateneo Literature Society entitled “HitLit Night,” a fashion show called “SOH Fresh,” a series of talks entitled “Gender, Art and Politics,” and “Pelikulasopiya,” a lecture and film screening relating philosophy and films. SOSS Sanggunian organizes “Excelsior: SOSS at Full Speed”
The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) Sanggunian held SOSS Week, entitled “Excelsior: SOSS at Full Speed,” on February 3 to 7. Among the events were a media journalism tour at the Philippine Daily Inquirer headquarters, the “SOSS Kapihan: State of the Sanggunian Address,” a forum about the Philippine’s progress in the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals entitled “Let’s move to a better Philippines” and an agrarian reform forum called “State of the Carper Address.” The SOSS Sanggunian also co-organized “MISION POSsible” with the Ateneo Assembly. This event included the Political Science Tambay Week, a forum on experiences in government of public servants called “Life in Politics” and “Let’s talk POS,” a political theory master class. The Ateneo holds its 8th Spring Film Festival
The annual Spring Film Festival was held from January 24 to February 2 at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall. The event was organized by the following: The Ricardo Leong Center for Chinese Studies, the Confucius Institute, Credit Suisse, the Ateneo Celadon and Shangri-La Plaza. The movies shown were Aftershock, 1911 Revolution, Snowfall in Taipei, Let’s Fall in Love, Thei-Go King and His Son, Li Mi Conjecture, Where is my Home and City Monkey. Some distinguished guests from the Ateneo who were present during the opening night were former University President Bienvenido Nebres, SJ, Director of Confucius Institute Ellen Palanca, PhD and Vice President for International and Global Relations Jose Cruz, SJ. Growing Up Wired: Raising Kids in the Digital Age by Department of Mathematics Professor Queena Lee-Chua, PhD, published under Anvil Publishing, Incorporated, was featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s top ten books of 2013.
