Theology Department offers new fantasy literature elective
The Theology Department is set to offer a fantasy literature elective next semester entitled “Th161.9.1: Theological Perspectives: A Vision for Christianity according to the World of Fantasy Literature.” The class aims to explore themes such as origin, “Christ and Christ-figures,” and destiny from a theological perspective. Some authors that will be given focus in this three-unit elective include C.S. Lewis, author of The Chronicles of Narnia, and J.R.R. Tolkien, writer of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Th121, “An Introduction to Doing a Catholic Theology,” and Th131, “Marriage, Family Life and Human Sexuality in a Catholic Perspective,” are pre-requisites to the course. – Pauline V. Miranda
BS Biology alumnus wins awards in International Student Congress
Ateneo alumnus Joey Francis B. Hernandez (BS Bio ‘10) received recognition at the 20th International Student Congress in Groningen, Netherlands held last June 4 to 7. Hernandez won the “Best Poster Presentation” award in two categories, namely the Infectious Diseases category and the Orthopedics category. He attended the congress as a representative of the University of the Philippines-Manila College of Medicine, where he is currently pursuing his medical degree. – Pauline V. Miranda
Raphael Guerrero, PhD is Outstanding Young Scientist
Physics Department Associate Professor Raphael Guerrero, PhD was recognized as an Outstanding Young Scientists of 2013. The distinction was given by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), an advisory body under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Guerrero received a cash prize and a plaque of recognition at the closing of the NAST Annual Scientific Meeting held last July 11. He is also set to receive a research grant worth P500,000 from the DOST in recognition of his work. – Pauline V. Miranda
