AT 71%, Richard Gordon has emerged as the prime choice of Atenean voters for the senatorial race in May, based on a survey conducted by the Ateneo Statistics Circle (A-Stat) from February 6 to 15.

Risa Hontiveros came in a close second, garnering 69%. Bam Aquino and Chiz Escudero ranked third and fourth, respectively, with 65% and 63%.

The rest of the top twelve senatorial candidates in the survey are the following: Alan Peter Cayetano, 57%; Loren Legarda, 48%; Juan Miguel Zubiri, 37%; Koko Pimentel III, 34%; Grace Poe, 33%; Antonio Trillanes IV, 32%; Ramon Magsaysay Jr., 32%; and Juan Edgardo Angara, 27%.

The survey was conducted to 200 eligible Atenean voters. The sample size was calculated to have a 7% margin of error and a 95% confidence level.

In its report disclosed to The GUIDON, A-Stat noted that only 25% of the respondents had a complete list of senators, 50% voted for at least eight senators, and 3% listed no senators at all.

Other findings

Forty-three percent of the respondents did not vote for any party-list in the said survey. Among the party-lists, however, Gabriela led the poll at 9%.

Akbayan and Ang Ladlad both tied at 5%, while Bayan Muna and Akap Bata tied at 4%.

Respondents were also asked to rate various qualities sought in government officials from one to five, the former being “not important at all” and the latter being “very important.”

Honesty, commitment and knowledge of work took the top three spots, with average scores of 4.83, 4.76 and 4.64, respectively. Notably, 84% of the respondents considered honesty very important.

In the same way, respondents were also asked to rate common and recent issues the government must pay most attention to.

From a list of ten given issues, education, corruption and poverty garnered the three highest average scores of 4.80, 4.72 and 4.66, respectively.
