THE ATENEO Blue Batters remain undefeated after edging De La Salle University, 9-7, on Sunday, January 27. The game ended in eight innings, as the umpires called off the game after it became too dark to play on the field.

Ateneo gained the upper hand early, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning after rookie Ryon Tionloc hit an impressive 2 RBI triple that sent Bocc Bernardo and Kevin Ramos home. La Salle answered back in the bottom of the inning after an error by Ateneo paved the way for La Salle batter Carlos Munoz to score.

In the top of the fourth inning, Gab Bagamasbad hit a 2 RBI single, earning two more runs for the team through Ramos and Tionloc. While Pelos Remollo and Bagamasbad were on second and first bases, respectively, Adriane Bernardo hit a line drive straight into the glove of La Salle second baseman Carlos Laurel, after which a triple play by La Salle closed the top of the inning.

In the eighth inning, Dio Remollo and Bocc Bernardo added two more runs to the score, ending the game, 9-7, in favor of the Blue and White.

It was a big game for veteran Ramos, who notched three runs and one RBI. Rookie Tionloc on the other hand, scored two runs, three RBI’s, a double and a triple.

Pitcher Miguel Salud delivered for five innings, with five runs on seven hits. Salud also had two walks and three strikeouts. Andy Tan replaced Salud in the sixth inning, ending the game with two runs on four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Ateneo will next play against University of the Philippines on Thursday, January 31 at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
