Ateneo prof’s paper to be published in int’l journal

An article by an Ateneo professor and two others from the United States was accepted for publication in an Institute for Scientific Information-listed journal. The paper by Ma. Mercedes Rodrigo, Ryan S. J. d. Baker of Teachers College, Columbia University and Lisa Rossi of Worcester Polytechnic Institute is entitled “Student Off-Task Behavior Learning in the Philippines: Comparison to Prior Research in the USA.” It will be published in Teachers College Record of Columbia University. The paper presented three studies to examine the differences in off-task behavior of students in the Philippines and the USA using intelligent tutoring software. Rodrigo is a professor at the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science. Her areas of specialization are educational technology, intelligent tutoring systems and affective computing. Kritika Kultura celebrates International Translation Day

The English Department’s Kritika Kultura celebrated International Translation Day by organizing Traveling Texts: Poetic Passage, A Kritika Kultura Poetry Reading last October 1. The event featured reading of poems in their original language and their translated language by selected professors and administrators of the Ateneo such as University President Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, SJ, Vice President John Paul Vergara, PhD and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Eduardo Jose Calasanz. The program had three sets, with interval performances by Michael Coroza of the Filipino Department. Maebel R. Joaquin


ASMPH pioneer batch records 98.4% passing rate

The Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health’s (ASMPH) first batch of graduates posted a passing rate of 98.4% in the Physician’s Licensure Exams. 61 of the takers put ASMPH in third overall after the University of the Philippines-Manila and University of Santo Tomas with rates of 99.4% and 98.7%, respectively. The high mark earned the school an Award of Excellence. The success of the new doctors was celebrated through a thanksgiving dinner at the ASMPH campus. Held last August 18 to 19 and 25 to 26, the licensure exams were administered by the Professional Regulation Commission. Ennah A. Tolentino
