THE SANGGUNIAN Central Board (CB) laid out updates regarding the Student Crime Prevention Council (SCPC) on August 17. The CB also assessed budget proposals from different schools, departments, offices and organizations.

With the help of the Ateneo administration, parents and the Sanggunian, the council will be responsible for proactive campaigning regarding crime prevention on campus.

SPCP is based on the Commission on Higher Education Memorandum Series of 2005.

“We set guidelines already for the creation of the Student Crime Prevention Council,” said Sanggunian Vice President Ian Agatep. “What we planned to do is really have the guidelines be prepared.”

The council is composed of Agatep, Sanggunian President Gio Alejo, the Office of Student Activities (OSA), the Associate Dean for Student Affairs (ADSA) and Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

The Sanggunian met with OSA, ADSA and Campus Safety and Security Officer Col. Jaime Gozon last August 15.

The administration is also asking for members from the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo and the Ateneo Resident Students Association.

“I think the real point of the whole committee is to make sure that the security and crime prevention done in school are with the students as well,” said Agatep.

He also said that the administration is hoping that student awareness will help them to improve their security implementation.

Budget hearing

The CB approved budget proposals of its departments and of the various school boards in the same meeting.

They include the Department for Student Leadership Development (DSLD), the Department of External Affairs (DEA), the Department of Student Welfare and Services (DSWS), the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), the Office of the President (OP), the Department of Research and Statistics (DRS), the Office of the Secretary General (OSG), the School of Social Sciences (SOSS) Lipad and the John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM) School Board.

The beginning balance allocated from last year is P1,690,565.65. According to Sanggunian Finance Officer Billie Dumaliang, total allocations so far amount to 64% of last year’s estimated CB level allocations although only P2.3 million was disbursed last year.

By the end of the budget proposals, the following are the approved budget requests: DSLD – P2,757.50, DEA – P5,740, DSWS – P4,276.50, DIA – P27,450, OP – P2,523.75, DRS – P5,217.19, OSG – P8,556, and SOSS Lipad – P7,567.

As for the JGSOM School Board, the CB agreed to postpone the budget hearing of its other projects to another day that has yet to be set. JGSOM representatives requested more time to prepare.

However, the CB has already approved the JGSOM’s Dean’s List Subsidies and the Management of Applied Chemistry Senior’s Talk projects. An amount of P32,809 is allocated for JGSOM until further modifications are made.
