Ateneo’s legendary Filipino professors share their favorite books in the vernacular.

Isa ito sa mga nobela na nagtatali at nag-uugnay sa panibagong paraan ng kasaysayan ng isang angkan sa Sagrada, isang bayan sa Camarines Sur.


Allan Derain:

Rinekomenda siya sa akin ng professor ko sa Fiction Writing class sa UP. Nung binasa ko yung libro, sabi ko, “Wow! Walang nagsusulat ng ganito sa Filipino. Dapat may nagsusulat ng ganito sa Filipino.”


Aris Atienza:

Sipat Kultura (Rolando B. Tolentino)

Ginagamit ko itong libro bilang textbook din sa mga Fil14 class ko. Yung lengguwahe na ginagamit ni [Tolentino] ay theoretical, tapos may jargon. Hindi lang siya naka-ugnay dun sa panahon, pero kung ano din ang message nito, kung ano ang halaga niya sa kasalukuyan.

Isa itong ‘novel of ideas.’ Ito, para sa akin, ay sumusunod sa halaga ng mga nobela ni Jose Rizal na Noli at El Fili, kasi [ang Noli at El Fili] nakasulat sa Kastila, pero ito nasa Tagalog, at isa sa mga unang nobela na sinulat sa Tagalog.
