Over the years, the Philippine music scene has had to deal with a number of losses that left the most devoted Pinoy music fans in tears.

Eraserheads (1989-2002)

The Eraserheads gave Pinoy pop culture such classics as “Pare Ko” and “Magasin,” but their success wasn’t enough to stop frontman Ely Buendia from leaving in 2002, due to disagreements with other band members.

Rico Blanco-fronted Rivermaya (1999-2007)

Rico Blanco’s sudden departure from Rivermaya came as a surprise. After all, it is through his vocals and songwriting that Rivermaya survived well past its Bamboo Mañalac era. He’s now pursuing a solo career.

Bamboo (2002-2011)

Bamboo was formed in 2002, led by the same frontman that was Rivermaya’s public face for most of the ‘90s. In that span of time, they were able to produce top hits like “Noypi” and “Hallelujah.”

Sugarfree (1999-2011)

In a farewell concert last March, the band saw its fans sending them off, singing “O kay tagal kitang mamahalin” into the night. Perhaps the band had really felt the burnout, but it was a truly memorable ride.

NU107 (1987-2010)

When you’ve got a huge crowd gathered outside your studio in tears, raising up candles and singing “Ang Huling El Bimbo” during your final broadcast, then you know that you’ve made a huge impact.
