The GUIDON, in an email interview with Former Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan Central Student Government (CSG) President Ernesto Neri, talks about the issues that the Cagayan de Oro campus faces. This sidebar offers merely a glimpse of the situations of other Ateneans from different parts of the country, as the conditions on the ground differ widely across the Ateneo universities.

Teaching issues

The CSG streamlined a complaint system for students to make sure that teachers fulfill their duties accordingly. In addition to the complaint system, they also established the “students’ choice awards” for exemplary teachers.

Green sustainability

A campus-wide waste management program was spearheaded by the CSG in hopes of synergizing the efforts of the different campus offices and student organizations.

Social involvement

Service-learning is the CSG’s primary thrust in encouraging students to participate in socio-political issues; students’ technical knowledge from their concentrations are incorporated in their socio-political activities.

Basic university services

Of course, the CSG also addresses the basics—a manual enrolment system (which is in the process of being upgraded), weak internet connectivity and malfunctioning water fountains, among others.
