IN A rematch of the opening game of this season’s UAAP Women’s Football Championships, the Ateneo Lady Booters faced the UST Tigresses on February 13, at the Ocampo field.
In their previous meeting, the España side dominated the Lady Booters in a 3-0 blowout; but, this time around, coming off a 2-0 win against arch rivals La Salle, the Lady Booters held the Tigresses to a scoreless draw, as both teams registered one more point in the standings.
The Tigresses dominated the first half with nine shots on goal—the closest attempt of the half coming from a low cross from the right wing, finding Jowe-ann Barruga for a strike just meters away from the goal. Barruga’s shot, however, hit the post and was cleared by the Lady Booters’ defense.
The Lady Booters, on the other hand, had one decent attempt in the half when a long defensive clear set up Cess Trinidad for a solo breakaway. Trinidad’s low strike across the goal was easily saved by the Tigresses’ goalie.
Going on the offensive, the Lady Booters had a change of tactics in the second half, moving Yvette Gaston up as striker while dropping Monica Santos to the midfield. The tactic proved to be successful as the Lady Booters registered more attempts at goal, with a promising chance coming off Santos’ shot from meters away from the goal box.
But, despite both sides relentlessly fighting to break the deadlock, this match would remain goalless.
The Lady Booters continue their run in form in their next match against the FEU Lady Tamaraws, on Wednesday, February 16 (3 pm), at the Erenchun field.
