THE THIRD day of the UAAP Track and Field Championships commenced Saturday, January 29th, after a day of rest from two straight days of competition.

The Blue and Lady Tracksters showcased their technical proficiency and power as they hauled in medals from the men’s shotput and women’s discus.

In his first throw, rookie thrower Al Bugarin secured the gold in the shotput with a throw of 12.96m, setting a comfortable lead for himself against the competition, with almost a meter distance from the second and third place finishers.

Angelo Arayata on the other hand, finished second with a personal best of 12.20m – giving the Blue and White a gold-silver finish in the event.

Lady Tracksters’ captain Mica Sibayan regained her crown in the discus event after just finishing in third the previous year. Before the finals, she was only at seventh place; but threw a 36.47m in the fifth round, beating her old personal best by two meters.

In the track events, sprint king Soy Soriano and Blue Tracksters Captain JP Azcueta finished at fifth and eighth place respectively, in the dreaded 400m run.

Meanwhile, Ally Lim pushed her way into a new personal best in the 3-km walk, finishing at fourth.

The Blue and Lady Tracksters resume on Monday, the fourth and final day of competition. Events to look forward to are the men’s hammer, 4x100m, 4x400m, classical relay, men’s discus, women’s hammer, and pole vault.
