AMIDST UNFAVORABLE playing conditions on Ocampo field—marred by slippery and muddy splotches of grass—the Ateneo Lady Booters battled the undefeated FEU Lady Tamaraws, in what concluded in an eventful scoreless draw, on January 23.
The Lady Tamaraws opened strong as they struck the first two shots on goal through a consistent back line, precision long ball play, and a quick attacking frontline. Despite numerous close attempts, the ladies in green were unable to convert all game, largely due to the relentless hustle of the Lady Booters’ defense.
Although the defensive play came off as sloppy, the Lady Booter’s back four were getting the job done. Veteran, Yvette Gaston‘s all around support, and Gely Tiu’s heroic goalkeeping both greatly contributed to holding the Lady Tamaraw Booters scoreless.
On the offensive end, the combination of Lydia Stoud-Lusk on the right wing, Monica Santos in midfield, and Cess Trinidad at striker, proved to be effective as several opportunities were created. One of the closest chances being a Santos strike, 10 meters from the goal box from Trinidad’s pass back. The strike however, was unfortunately, directed straight to the goalkeeper’s arms.
“Compared to our last game we played better in defense because we followed coach’s instructions, and our attack was better too,” said Trinidad on the draw.
Against an undefeated squad that overcame the UP Lady Maroons and the UST Golden Booters, the Ateneo Lady Booters showed a lot of promise in today’s result. They will continue their conquest for win number one against the defending UAAP champions, the DLSU Lady Archers, on Wednesday, January 26 (3pm) at the Ocampo field.
