Potential new recruits for the Loyola Schools’ teaching force undergo a rigorous application process. The GUIDON takes a look at a system supposedly designed to segregate the best from the merely good enough.
1. The school dean gives advance approval for an academic position to be filled.
2. An applicant appears for interviews and holds demo classes.
3. The department chair concerned (or equivalent personnel) makes a tentative offer to the applicant.
4. Once the applicant submits the needed papers, the chair endorses the application and forwards it to the school dean.
5. The dean endorses the application to the VP, who in turn recommends the applicant’s appointment to the president.
6. The president gives official approval of the appointment.
7. Pertinent documents are returned to the VP for payroll authorization.
8. The necessary contracts are signed.
