Ateneo, Silliman University launch Math grad program
ATENEO SIGNED a Memorandum of Agreement with Silliman University on an offshore graduate program in Mathematics on May 14.
The program is part of the Commission on Higher Education’s Higher Education Development Project-Faculty Development Program. It grants the degree of Master of Science in Mathematics to 25 faculty members teaching the subject in the Visayas.
The program will start in June. Ateneo will provide the lecturers while Silliman University will provide the facilities and support services.

Board of Trustees appoints new Chair
THE ATENEO Board of Trustees has chosen Edward S. Go as its new Chair. His term as part of the Board of Trustees is until May 2013.
Go graduated in the Ateneo as a magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He is currently the Chairman of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. and ASA Philippines Foundation.
Go has replaced Manny V. Pangilinan as the Chair of the Board of Trustees. Pangilinan has resigned on April of this year due to controversies surrounding his commencement address in the March 26 and 27 graduation rites.

U.S. Ambassador visits, strengthens ties with Ateneo
HARRY K. Thomas Jr., the United States (US) Ambassador to the Philippines, visited University President Bienvenido Nebres, SJ on May 26.
Thomas, who was accompanied by other officers from the US Embassy, attended the cordial meeting, hosted by Nebres and other Ateneo officials, at the board room of Xavier Hall.
At the meeting, Nebres cited milestones in the University’s history that connected it to America. He also discussed how Ateneo was contributing to resolve issues in Mindanao such as poverty. Thomas said that he was honored to have been able to visit the University. He added that he wanted to learn more about the Philippines, particularly about its education system
