What qualifies one to be appointed or promoted to an academic position in the Loyola Schools?
INSTRUCTOR
– possession of a Master’s degree or a conventionally accepted equivalent
– proven teaching ability
– potential to progress to the rank of Assistant Professor
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
– possession of a doctorate (if initially appointed to the rank)
– three years of experience as an Instructor (if appointed)
– evidence of qualities of character, personality, and competence expected in a teacher
– evidence of scholarship and research, particularly scholarly publications
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
– possession of a doctorate
– minimum of three years of experience as an Assistant Professor in the University or one of equal standing
– evidence of continuing and increasing achievement in qualities of character, personality, and competence expected in a teacher
– potential for mentorship of younger faculty members within the department
– evidence of recognition by colleagues in the same field of scholarship appointed
PROFESSOR
– fulfillment of the requirements of the previous ranks
– evidence of such outstanding qualities as to merit recognition among scholars and educators
– minimum of five years of experience as an Associate Professor in the University
